Sustainable Office Program

Lafayette Engineering recognizes the importance of addressing environmental challenges. As part of our ongoing efforts to reduce our ecological footprint, the division participates in Lafayette’s Sustainable Office Program aimed at fostering environmentally responsible practices. This voluntary self-guided program uses a checklist of sustainability-focused actions  to track eco-friendly practices involved in day-to-day workplace operations.

The completed scorecard indicates the practices currently in place within Accopian Engineering Center staff spaces, along with additional actions that can be incorporated in the future.

We are proud to have achieved silver level status in the program, and will continue to evaluate and improve practices to advance our sustainability efforts.

Where to recycle in AEC

Please pitch in and help recycle in the following locations in Acopian Engineering Center

  • Non-contaminated plastics #1-7 (rinse out food and remove lid before recycling), cardboard, paper in blue mixed-use recycling bin on each floor
  • Pens, pencils, markers, highlighters in recycle box on shelf in AEC 314 or by printer in AEC 300
  • Batteries, cell phones, small electronics (e.g., cameras) in green box on shelf in AEC 314
  • Snack wrappers in designated yellow bins on on each floor near trash and recycling cans
  • 3D filament in designated box in AEC 402

Reduce & reuse

  • Use water refilling stations on the 1st floor next to AEC 134, 2nd floor next to AEC 235, and 3rd floor across from the restrooms to help reduce plastic waste.
  • Join the campus clamshell program for to-go orders: Pick up your carabiner in the basement of Marquis at the Dining Office. Exchange it for a clamshell at Upper Farinon or Marquis, then fill it with your favorite food as you take it to-go. Return dirty clamshell in exchange for a clean clamshell the next time you enter an all-you-care-to-eat dining location or in exchange for your carabiner.

Specialty Recycling on campus

  • Oral waste (toothbrushes, toothpaste tubs, floss dispensers): Recycle these items in the respective boxes outside of the Office of Sustainability, RITZ 203.
  • Beauty products (shampoo bottles, makeup containers, lotion bottles): These can also be recycled in the designated boxes at the same location.
  • Shoes (no laces): Recycle in the designated box at Rec Services and Farinon.

Please remember to turn off lights if you’re the last one out of a classroom, lab, study space, or office.
