Although it is not required, many students chose to bring a computer to Lafayette. Some of the high-level software used in engineering is only accessible on the college-owned workstations which are widely available throughout the engineering facility or virtually through Amazon AppStream.

A major decision for students buying a computer is Mac or Windows. In the end it is a matter of preference, however, much of the engineering software that is available for download is made for Windows. A Mac can still be used, but requires installation of a Windows emulator. Some Mac users will install Mac versions on their personal computers when they are available and use Lafayette computers for apps that do not run on a Mac.
